Peacocking

Using a mix of acrylic paint and oil pastel, I aimed to use unconventional colour schemes and impasto techniques to create birds in a more abstracted form. For this piece, I started with a split between a gold and teal background, then added smaller amounts of pink, light blue and orange. The bird was painted only in a Phthalo blue, layered over top with a variety of colours of oil pastel.

The bird and variety of shapes and lines were developed as they were painted on, rather than planned out beforehand, while using references for the bird itself. The colours were chosen based purely off of feeling, so there was not much planning involved with this piece, rather deciding to go with the flow.
