Denial
Using a mix of acrylic background and thick oil, I aimed to use unconventional colour schemes and impasto techniques to create a variety of human expressions in a more abstracted form. For this piece, I contrasted the cerulean blue background with the warmer tones of the reds, oranges, and yellows in the face, and unified them using a slight amount of purples and blues.
The face was developed as it was painted on, rather than planned out beforehand, while using references for the angle of the face, as well as shading. The colours were chosen based purely off of feeling, so there was not much planning involved with this piece, rather deciding to go with the flow of the emotions. The background is textured with the acrylic paint, as to create a patterned effect when the oil paint was spread on with a pallet knife.
