Splitting

Using a mix of acrylic background and thick oil, I aimed to use unconventional colour schemes and impasto techniques to create a variety of human expressions in a more abstracted form. For this piece, I contrasted the paler green background with the more vibrant orange and purples of the face, creating a secondary colour scheme.

The face was developed as it was painted on, rather than planned out beforehand, while using references for the angle of the face, as well as shading. The colours were chosen based purely off of feeling, so there was not much planning involved with this piece, rather deciding to go with the flow of the emotions. The background is painted with textured acrylic to create a wavy texture, which makes a pattern with the paint when it is spread with a pallet knife.
