Knot Knot (Who’s There)

Using a mix of acrylic paint and oil pastel, I aimed to use unconventional colour schemes to create shibari knots in a more abstracted form. For this piece, I started with a split between a gold and red background, then mixed phthalo blue and Windsor violet that I then selectively layered overtop in sections, layered over top further with a variety of colours of oil pastel.

The variety of shapes and lines were developed as they were painted on, rather than planned out beforehand, while using references for the knot itself. The colours were chosen based purely off of feeling, so there was not much planning involved with this piece, rather deciding to go with the flow.
